Places to Run in and near Columbus
Parks- Columbus Riverwalk - One of the best places to run in Columbus. The Riverwalk has over 15 miles of paved trail to run. And the best part - it's only two blocks from the Big Dog storefront!!!
- Lakebottom Park - Great neighborhood park near downtown. The Columbus Road Runners Couch to 5K program usually meets here in the late fall and winter months. The park is less than two miles from Big Dog.
- Cooper Creek Park - Plenty of trees and a nature trail. The Columbus Road Runners Couch to 5K program usually meets here in the spring and summer months. Cooper Creek is about 6.5 miles from Big Dog.
- Flat Rock Park - If you like running trails (and hills) this is the place for you. There are over ten miles of trails in the park, which is on Warm Springs Road in Columbus. Big Dog has a group trail run here on Sunday afternoons and hosts a trail race here in the spring. Flat Rock is about 9 miles from Big Dog.
- Britt David Park - Britt David has a one-mile paved trail that is hilly in places. A great place for a good workout and maybe some mile repeats. This park is about 5.5 miles from Big Dog.
- Heath Park - Another neighborhood park near Windsor Park subdivision off Weems Road. An oasis of trees for the hot summer months. Heath Park is about 7 miles from Big Dog.
- Fall Line Trace - The Trace, also known as Rails-to-Trails, is Columbus' newest trail system that runs from the Riverwalk downtown to Cooper Creek Park, past Flat Rock Park to Salmon Road in northeast Columbus.
- Idle Hour Park - This park combines a pleasant .75 mile loop around Moon Lake with an additional mile-long nature trail. Both of these are paved with asphalt. The difficulty is easy to moderate. If you run both the nature trail and the more traditional loop the total is 1.75 miles.
- Standing Boy Wildlife Management Area - Standing Boy, on Old River Road, has a network of unimproved roads and informal trails. Standing Boy map
Road Routes There are three loops that can be run from the pool on Double Churches Road.
Loop 1 - 3.5 miles - From the pool, take a left on to Double Churches Rd. When you get to Whitesville Rd, take a right and follow Whitesville until you hit Williams Rd. Take a right on Williams Rd. and follow it until you reach Lloyd. Take a right on Lloyd and it will take you back to the Pool.
Loop 2 - 7 miles - From the pool take a left on Double Churches Rd. and then a right on Whitesville Rd.
Follow Whitesville until you reach Hubbard where you will take an additional right. When you reach Fortson Rd. take a right and follow it to Williams Rd. where you will take another right. When you hit Lloyd you will take a left back to the pool.
Loop 3 - 11 miles - From the pool take a left on to Double Churches Rd. and run to Whitesville Rd. Turn right and continue until you hit Smith Rd. Take a right and follow Smith until you get to Fortson Rd. Take a right and follow it until you come across Williams Rd. Take a right on Williams to Lloyd. Then take a Left on Lloyd back to the pool.
From Pierce Chapel Methodist Church take a right on Pierce Chapel Rd to Warm Springs Rd. Take a left
to Grey Rock where you take a left. Go to Veterans Parkway (Hwy 27) and take a left. Go to Pierce
Chapel Rd take a left back to church.
